Storage Solutions

If you’re anything like me, having my house in order before the holiday season is a big priority. With Santa bringing more toys to be scattered throughout the house, having everything else in its place makes life a little less chaotic. Before pulling out your decorations and Santa drops off loads of toys, let’s get things organized!

Storage Solutions

For The Kitchen

As I’ve been tearing through my house one cabinet and one closet at a time, I realized that I am going to need a few items to help organize my space, otherwise I am just shuffling my piles from one place to another. Let’s take a step back and focus on one room at a time. Since the kitchen is the most used room in the house, let’s start there (But be on the lookout in 2020 for more specialized storage solutions!)

Top Drawer Organizers

In older kitchens like mine, drawers are limited so it’s important that the drawers are well thought through. Utensils, knives, and cutlery all need their own place. Here are a few of my favorite organizers.

Oversized Drawers

One of my preferred cabinets to include in new kitchen designs is a large base cabinet with three drawers.  The middle and bottom drawers are perfect for storing pots and pans, and even organizing dishes (which makes it easier for littles to help put away dishes too!!) It’s such a great solution and so universal.

Roll out Shelves

As I mentioned, my own kitchen is older and although I have plans to remodel someday, I have to make the most with what I currently have. My base cabinets have one ½ depth shelf. I often find myself on my hands and knees trying to find my favorite pot because my children put away the dishes last, and it didn’t end up quite in the right spot. Although I may not have the ease of the stack of 3 drawers, it doesn’t mean I can’t add roll out shelves to my existing cabinets. These are on my Christmas wish list (wink wink to the hubs if he is reading this.) Roll out shelves are also a great option if you are thinking about a new kitchen too. It might boil down to how you want the outside of the cabinet to look; because drawers and roll out shelves can function similar. Look at these fabulous roll out shelves!

Pull Out Cabinet

Pull out cabinets are another favorite of mine, and they aren’t just for spices.  If you are planning your new kitchen these are a must! But don’t forget if you have a narrow cabinet, there could be a way to add this to your existing kitchen too. Look at all the different things you can store in them!

Drop OFF Zones

If the kitchen countertops are cleared off, its a win in my house! In reality, my kitchen becomes the drop off zone with schoolwork, mail, keys, phones and other electronics, all emptied on the counter. A cleared off work zone doesn’t have to be a dream.

Under the Sink

The space under your sink doesn’t have to be a complete disaster. We don’t need to talk about the mess it is under there, let’s just look some ideas. Adding a sink matt is a good place to start. A good quality matt with dimples can collect up to 1 gallon of water per 6 square feet. Not only will this protect the bottom of your cabinet, but everything around it too.

A well designed kitchen will make life easier. We have said it many times; your kitchen is the heart of your home.  Make it a space you love to be in and a place for your family to gather. A place to cook in, but also a place to do homework and crafts. Make it happen by organizing one drawer at a time.
